“The Nation of Israel Will Not Surrender”: A Coronavirus Anthem For Our Time

The title of Israel’s national anthem – and its main rallying cry – may be “Hatikvah”, the hope. But today, Israel’s new message is “stay home”.

An all-star cross-section of Israel’s musical community united today to urge Israelis to stay home during the Coronavirus crisis. And they did it in the best way they knew how: in song.

Singing from balconies and terraces throughout the country, the stars stressed that all of us can prevent the next Coronavirus tragedy – as long as everyone follows prescribed safety guidelines.

The song is entitled “Al Mi At Chachama”, loosely translated as “do you think you can outsmart us?

“We defeated Pharaoh,” the artists sing. “What makes you think you [Corona] can outsmart us?”

The song’s performers include Itay Levy, Roni Dalumi, Omer Adam, Eden Hason, David Broza, Arik Sinai, Stephane Legar, Gila Almagor, Zehava Ben, Harel Skaat, Orna & Moshe Datz, President Reuven Rivlin and many others.

The song was written by Erez Dan – part of the creative team behind last year’s smash hit, “Shevet Achim VaAchayot”.
