“Shevet Achim V’achayot” – The lyrics

70 years in the car
I travel and look
What was and what will be
And how my soul still yearns

From sunrises at Masada
To selichot in Jerusalem
From the beach of the Kineret and Achziv
To the parties of Tel Aviv

I dream and pray
To live in the land of Israel
Today my children ask
What’s the story of Israel

CHORUS:
Here is home, here is heart
And you I will not leave
Our ancestors, our roots
We are the flowers, the melodies
A tribe of brothers and sisters

The same neighborhood, the same street
The twelve sons of Jacob
In wanderings we gather together
Inside a backpack of longing

A man is his native landscape
He digs lines in the palm of his hand
Between the prayers and the vows
Odors of an orchard of citrus

And in the eyes of my mother
I will always find my place
On the guitar I play
An old melody that directs us

Here is home, here is heart
And you I will not leave
Our ancestors, our roots
We are the flowers, the melodies
A tribe of brothers and sisters

From scratch everything is sewn
Patches, patches of the story
Like two words, to connect
With the golden needle of a poet

I am from here, I belong
And every friend of mine is like a brother
You are the beating of my heart
I am East/West

Here is home, here is heart
And you I will not leave
Our ancestors, our roots
We are the flowers, the melodies
A tribe of brothers and sisters

Just falling in love with this song and its meaning. It speaks my heart very much, and how I love and miss Israel, my home.

I do not speak Hebrew, but love this song. My grandson lives in Israel, after serving as a Lone Soldier and my granddaughter introduced “Shevet Achim Va’achayot” to me and it has stayed in my head and heart for months. Such a beautiful song and meaning. Thank you for sharing the lyrics and some of the true talents that Israel has to offer. Am Yisrael Chai

Thank you, Helene. This is exactly why Israeli music can be such a powerful way to connect with Israel, even if one doesn’t understand Hebrew!!

Say, what’s the finger gesture they are making. I presume it’s something like “we’re like *this*”?

Thank you so much fo4 the lyrics, I needed them to translate them to Persian:)

I guess

would be ” My father dreamt and and he is always praying that…”
