Israeli Music Today: Transcript

Today in Israeli Music, Netta Barzilai speaks out about this year’s Israeli Eurovision entry, and Purim is in the air, in Israel and around the world. This is MyIsraeliMusic.com, I’m Josh Shron, and here’s your Israeli music news for Monday, March 18, 2019

Eden, Omer, Stephane, & Netta march in the Purim parade…sort of

Well, you know Purim is on the way when all kinds of ridiculous photos and videos start showing up in your social media feed. And so yesterday, the daily Israeli television show “Erev Tov Im Guy Pines” (and yes, I realize how strange that last name sounds to Anglo audiences), posted a video from the annual “Ad D’lo Yada” Purim parade in Holon, featuring eight-foot likenesses of Eden Ben Zaken, Omer Adam, Stephane Legar, and Netta Barzilai strolling down the street. They’re four of the biggest singers in Israel, but now, they’re bigger than ever. Very cool, though just a bit terrifying.

Liron Lev & Adi Cohen: “A Purim Is Born”

Doesn’t look like the song “Shallow” from “A Star Is Born” is going away anytime soon. Also in the Purim spirit, singers Liron Lev and Adi Cohen sang well-known Purim songs to the melody of the popular Bradley Cooper/Lady Gaga duet.

It’s only Monday, and Purim is on Thursday. Something tells me the craziness has only just begun…and that’s perfectly fine with me.

Netta’s Got Kobi’s Back in Eurovision 2019

3> Kobi you're my someone! I love you !

And finally, Netta Barzilai is back in the news this week. Apparently there have been a number of negative reviews out there for Kobi Marimi’s Eurovision entry this year, so Netta felt compelled to rush to Kobi’s defense. She wrote on Instagram, “This past week I have noticed an abnormal wave of evil surrounding the song by Kobi Marimi. I remember that when ‘Toy’ came out, there was a similar wave of evil that quickly changed in support.” She went on to say, “supporting our representative, and especially Kobi, who is a wonderful singer and a huge virtuoso with a gentle and sweet soul, will do wonders for his performance on stage, and will do wonders for us here in Israel.” Netta also reminded everyone to ignore the betting odds, adding that last year, Cypress shot from the bottom of the odds to second place overall in the contest.
