When I started hosting Israel Hour Radio back in 1994, I knew very little about Israeli music and culture. Sure, I knew a few songs here and there, but at the time, I just wanted to be on the radio, and figured I’d learn along the way.

So that’s exactly what I did, and within a few months, I was hooked. I was learning about the artists, and loving the music. But the most exciting part of my Israeli music journey took place the next time I’d visit Israel, in late 1995.

It was my second trip ever, and it was a transformative experience. Why? Because this time, I felt Israeli. I knew the songs they were playing on the radio, I smiled when a song I knew came on at the cafe, I went to concerts and sang along with every word. It caused me to fall in love with the land of Israel like never before, and there was no turning back.

A musical Israel tour = a dream come true

Well, that was 25 years ago. I’ve immersed myself in Israeli music ever since, hosting Israel Hour Radio as a labor of love. I love the music, I love the thrill of live radio, and I love interacting with listeners around the world who share my passion.

But along the way, I’ve always dreamed of recreating my own Israel experience for my listeners. I’ve wanted to help listeners – all who are already passionate about Israeli music – view Israel from the same lens I looked through in 1995 (and still do!). I’ve dreamed of traveling through our beloved homeland while bringing our favorite music to life. And most of all, I always imagined a huge party of Israel Hour Radio fans…where else but in the land of Israel?

I’ve kicked the idea around in my head for many years…never really believing I could make it happen. Where would we go? What would we do? Would people actually come? Fear and self-doubt kept the idea from developing.

But then one day, I decided to finally take action. I emailed a few tour companies to ask for their help in developing a never-before-explored itinerary, and most didn’t even bother responding! But moments after emailing Keshet Tours, they responded enthusiastically. 10 days later, I had a sample itinerary. And now? It’s finally happening.

I’m beyond thrilled to announce “My Israeli Music Experience” – a musical tour of Israel in summer 2020!

Quite simply, I’m working to create the kind of Israel tour I’d love to go on – filled with unforgettable concerts, visits to special museums, exhibits, and radio stations, meetings with musical personalities and celebrities, and much more!

PLUS – gorgeous hotels, delicious meals, fun and camaraderie, and our LIVE “Israel Hour Radio” official 25th anniversary broadcast, direct from Israel!

While the exact itinerary is still being developed, here are a few plans we can share. Please note that it’s impossible to make exact plans this far in advance, and all activities are subject to change.

My Israeli Music Experience: Highlights

“Danny, Gidi & Friends”
  • This trip will coincide with the annual “Chutzot HaYotzer”, an incredible arts and crafts festival in Jerusalem that takes place every summer near Sultan’s Pool. There is a major concert that takes place every night of the festival. While the dates and performers for 2020 have not yet been set, 2019’s lineup included “Danny (Sanderson), Gidi (Gov), and Friends”, Shlomi Shabbat, Barry Sacharof, Itay Levy, Hanan Ben Ari, Moshe Peretz, Static & Ben-El Tavori, Eden Ben Zaken, and many more! The dates of our trip will be set once the Chutzot HaYotzer 2020 dates are announced.
  • We’ll attend a concert (schedule permitting) at the Caesarea Amphitheater, one of the world’s most magical places to see a show! We’ll also spend time in Tel Aviv, soaking in the musical nightlife of the “cultural capital of Israel”.
  • We will spend a Shabbat in Jerusalem, taking in the music of Kabbalat Shabbat / Friday night services in TWO very distinct experiences: first, Kabbalat Shabbat at Tachana Rishona (First Station), where religious and secular Jews join together each week for a musical Kabbalat Shabbat celebration that welcomes and embraces all. Then, we’ll head to the Western Wall for a traditional Kabbalat Shabbat service, filled with singing, dancing, and warmth.
  • Our Shabbat in Jerusalem will also include an hour of Shira B’tzibur (public singing), where we’ll recreate camp-like experiences while singing our favorite Israeli songs of all time.
  • You’ll meet with some of the people who make music happen in Israel: musical celebrities, radio DJs, composers and producers, and more.
  • We’ll learn about Biblical music in Jerusalem, spiritual music in Tzfat, and modern pop music in Tel Aviv.
  • We’ll participate in a live Israel Hour Radio broadcast from Israel, celebrating Mairov and Josh’s 25 years on the air!
