WATCH: Shlomi Shabbat’s Emotional Love Letter to Jerusalem

Reason #1854 why I love Israeli music? Because 72 years since the founding of the state, Israeli artists still sing gorgeous love songs to their country.

In honor of Yom Yerushalayim 5780 / Jerusalem Day 2020, Shlomi Shabbat released a new song, simply entitled “Yerushalayim” (Jerusalem). The song tells of the Jewish nation’s eternal longing for its capital city, as well as the countless prayers, poems, and songs that have been written about it.

What makes the video so powerful, however, is the incredible imagery. The scenes of Jerusalem are simply breathtaking. The stunning photography instantly transports the viewer to the magic and majesty of Jerusalem.

We’ve taken the liberty of translating the song into English, and posted it to YouTube so everyone can appreciate it.

Yom Yerushalayim celebrates the miraculous events of the Six Day War, culminating in the liberation of Jerusalem in 1967. It is observed each year on the 28th of Iyar.
