First Look At Miri Mesika’s “Stunning” Performance In “The Band’s Visit”

“The Band’s Visit” opened in London’s Donmar Warehouse on October 6, 2022, with Israeli singer Miri Mesika playing a starring role. And – wow! – according to early reviews, she nothing short of a hit.

Miri plays Dina, a Petach Tikva café owner who has a “near-romance” with Tewfiq (played by Alon Moni Aboutboul) – a musical conductor in town for a gig.

We’ve been Miri Mesika fans for a long time, and now London is falling in love with her too! Across the board, one reviewer after another is in love with Miri Mesika’s voice. Here’s just a small sampling of the recent praise for Miri.

The Guardian writes: “In a stunning performance by Israeli performer Miri Mesika, each song reveals new textures in her voice, from sardonic iron to yearning velvet.”

According to LondonTheatre.co.uk: [Miri] is simply a knockout: her voice is so rich, so velvety, that you get lost in its depths.”

Claire Allfree of The Telegraph raves: “The performances meanwhile are terrific – notably the star Israeli actress and singer Miri Mesika as Dina, who captures a life’s worth of yearning in a single song…”

And from The Times: “Michael Longhurst’s European premiere features a cosmopolitan cast, with a standout lead vocal performance from Israeli star Miri Mesika.”

Finally, monstagigz.com sums up the flurry of press surrounding Miri’s performance: “But it’s Mesika’s Dina who brings the house down and it is perhaps no surprise that we discover in the programme after the show that she is a multi-award winning Israeli singer and actress who has sold over 200,000 albums internationally because she is an absolute sensation here bringing so much heart to her role that it’s clear that we are falling in love with her as much as the rest of the cast.”

Wow! Nice to see one of Israel’s most-admired performers making it big on the London stage! Will you see The Band’s Visit in London? Be sure to post a review if you do!
