Young Broken Hearts: Somehow, It’s Become the Week of Teenage Israeli Breakup Songs

Is there something in the water? Somehow this week, two prominent teens in Israeli music released sad breakup songs, while a third older music veteran released a (beautiful) sad song as well. Feeling down? Drown your sorrows in these three depressing songs.

Or Amrami Brockman: “You broke everything in me”

Or Amrami Brockman, who turns 18 this week, was a runner up on the most recent season of HaKochav Haba. He recently broke up with his girlfriend. and, just as any musician would, wrote a song about his pain.

He brought his hurt-filled music and lyrics to superstar producer Stav Beger (co-writer of the Eurovision-winning “Toy”). Together they created “Varod Zoher” (Bright Pink):

How can you say to me that it is alright
you broke everything in me, I am not built to be reassembled
what will become now here, order
starting again at the beginning

The song is Or’s second single since coming in third place in the reality show last year.

Noam Kleinstein: “It’s a shame what happened to us”

The same day, 19-year-old Noam Kleinstein released her own breakup song. The younger daughter of Rami and Rita, Noam is a talented singer, composer, producer, and musician. She also serves in the IDF, entertaining troops as part of the Army Band (Source: Mako).

On the day she broke up with her boyfriend (seemingly named “Yuval”), Noam channeled her pain into song. The result? “Shir L’Yuval” (A Song for Yuval), Noam’s third single on which she wrote the music and lyrics.

The song describes her breakup from her first love:

He returned my heart to me
and took his away
but with what they he left me, only
one piece forgot
i always threatened to leave
Yuval said that he gave up on us
he knew that I would not go
If he would ask me to stay

Ivri Lider: “Come here, come here to save my life”

Also this week, veteran Israeli singer Ivri Lider released a beautiful yet depressing song with an equally sad music video. The video depicts a young hotel housekeeper who is clearly struggling with her life. She is working hard daily, visibly frustrated at the direction her life has taken:

Meeting the empty moment, not filling spaces with nonsense
meeting the empty moment, not fearing simply to be
smell of rain and a heart that beats, flutters with a desire to feel
the sharp end of the razor when the wound opens and gives me a reason to say
That you should come, come to me
girl with loving intentions
so come, come here
to save my life

While we generally try to uplift your spirits with the Israeli music we feature, sometimes life isn’t all that rosy and beautiful. What do you think of these three new songs?
