My 8 Seconds of Fame on Israeli TV

On February 4, Keshet TV (Israel’s Channel 12) premiered an hour-long documentary on Shiri Maimon’s journey to the Broadway stage. As a fan, I was eager to watch.

And then, much to my surprise, about half way through…there I was! Right there on Israeli TV! For about eight whole seconds!

So here’s how it happened:

As you’ll recall, Shiri Maimon starred as Roxie Hart in the Broadway production of “Chicago”. She held the role for two weeks back in the fall. She’ll also reprise the role in an English-language production of the show in Tel Aviv this March.

The documentary followed Shiri as she auditioned for the role, rehearsed at home in Israel, got settled in New York City, and learned the songs and the choreography. The cameras were still rolling in Shiri’s dressing room as she prepared to take the Broadway stage for the first time, in the theater as she took her first curtain call, and outside as she greeted fans after the performance.

And the cameras were also rolling on Friday, September 7, as Shiri met the press at Sardi’s Restaurant in New York City. Mairov and I were excited to attend the official press conference, and take a few minutes to chat with Shiri about her new dream role. Little did we know they were filming us the entire time.

You can read my review of the “Chicago” press conference here. As far as I know, this is my first appearance on Israeli TV. May it be the first of many more to follow! 🙂

If you’re in Israel, you can watch the entire Shiri Maimon / Chicago documentary here. Unfortunately, it’s not free outside of Israel.
