Israeli Music Today: Transcript

Today in Israeli Music, Keren Peles does her part to help fire victims in Israel…changes are happening at the judges’ tables on Israel’s music reality shows…and it’s a whole new world for Israeli singer Adi Bity. This is MyIsraeliMusic.com, where we’re building a stronger Israel, one song at a time. I’m Josh Shron, and here’s your Israeli music news for Sunday, May 26, 2019.

Keren Peles shows her love to fire victims in Mevo Modi’in

Israel is still reeling from the massive fires on Thursday which destroyed most of Mevo Modiin, a community in central Israel founded by Rabbi Shlomo Carlebach. 3,500 people were evacuated from their homes, most of which were destroyed in the fire. Offers of help have come from everywhere, but one of the most interesting has come from singer Keren Peles, who wrote on Facebook: “Residents of Mevo Modiin, it’s hard for me to imagine what you’re going through right now. To lose everything in an instant, to be without a home. A whole community wiped out! You’re welcome to be in touch with Tom, who will help you get in to one of my upcoming shows. Music is all I have to give, and I hope it will be sufficient.”

It’s hard to imagine any of these folks thinking about going to a concert at a time like this, but we know that music does have healing powers… so maybe, just maybe, it will help in some small way.

Changes at Israel’s TV Reality Shows

We recently told you that Harel Ska’at made the decision to leave “Hakochav Haba” after five seasons. Well, it wasn’t long before we discovered that he’d be making the move from judge to music teacher, on the show “Beit Sefer L’muzika”, music school, a reality singing contest for kids. Now we’ve learned that teen sensation Noa Kirel will also make the move to Beit Sefer L’muzika. She’s also coming from another hit show, “Got Talent Yisrael”, where she was a judge for two seasons. Interesting to note that once upon a time, Noa Kirel tried hard get onto Beit Sefer L’muzika as a contestant herself, but didn’t make the cut. Well, looks like she’s had the last laugh.

Meanwhile, filling Harel Ska’at’s seat at HaKochav Haba will be singer Itay Levy, who filled in for a couple of shows this past season. And the game of musical reality shows continues.

“A Whole New World” for Adi Bity

Speaking of “Beit Sefer L’muzika”, singer Adi Bity competed on the show back in 2011. Since then, she’s been a popular singer and actress on kids’ television shows and live performances in Israel. So…Disney’s live action remake of “Aladdin” is out in theaters, and to celebrate the release of the movie, Disney brought together singers from around the world to cover the movie’s most famous song, “A Whole New World”. Representing from Israel, Adi Bity. She’s the one in the purple dress.

Singers from around the world cover “A Whole New World” from Aladdin. Adi Bity is the one in the purple dress on the far left.

When it comes to propelling a singer’s career, well, you’ve never had a friend like Disney.
