“I Am Numb”: Israeli Singers Respond to the Tragedy in Pittsburgh

As the Jewish world struggles to make sense of this past weekend’s terror attack at the Tree of Life Congregation in Pittsburgh, PA, a handful of Israeli artists have taken to social media with their thoughts.

A few prominent Israeli singers – particularly those who have spent a great deal of time in the United States – have shared their opinions on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Here are the comments we’ve come across so far.

David Broza: “The venom of racial hate still fills and refuels the warped and unstable minds.”

It is the start of a new week, but I cannot bring myself to rise to the new challenges of the coming days. I am numb. Deeply affected by the horrific massacre, the hate crime, committed in Pittsburgh this past saturday.
The attack was not of ‘one single disturbed man’. It is a continuity of the racial beastly and untamed mad spirit of humans.
The Tree Of Life synagogue at the Squirrel Hill community, so removed from the times and place of the pogroms, the holocaust. Evidently you cannot run far enough. It seems that no matter how many Martin Luther Kings’, Ghandis’, Mandelas’, or Rabbi Heschels’ there will be, the venom of racial hate still fills and refuels the warped and unstable minds. The end result is in the trigger of a gun and the finger of a merciless cold blooded man hunter. A beast.
My deep condolences to the Pittsburgh jewish community and to the people of the city.

Shiri Maimon: “After all my people have been through I understand the power of being Jewish.”

Being persecuted just because you are a Jew.
Crazy world, crazy people. What do they have in mind? Hate.
There’s a reason why there’s a state for the Jews, it’s strange and it annoys a lot of people in the world but it’s the only place that really feels safe. Feel home.
Unfortunately this will happen again, we live under constant attack in Israel and around the world. After all my people have been through I understand the power of being Jewish. And I’ll pass it on to my children.

Ninet Tayeb: “We fight darkness with light.”

Heart braking news.
It makes me so sad as a Jew and as a human being.
We fight darkness with light and with light only. Sending my love to the families

Achnoam Nini (Noa): “May the fallen rest in peace, may the living work for It.”

Stunned and devestated by the shooting in Pittsburgh synagogue. But after initial shock, not surprised. A United States of America infected by xenophobia, racism, white supremacy and yes, antisemitism, poisoned by the Trump administration and it’s rabid supporters (including JEWS for God’s sake!!), Who can be truly surprised?? The worst is yet to come for all of us, everywhere, if sane Americans don’t wake up and save their great country.
May the fallen rest in peace, may the living work for It.
